New rules, new players, same old stuff

Life goes in circles, from time to time you see that history repeats changing slightly from one time to another, at a given time it looks like everything is going to change, but somehow you fell like things remain the same, you only have to change names and places. This time is now for Computer Science and Internet.

Just think of military or politics, current events could be perfectly identified with events from the past: another dictator in Africa, another hated or loved president, another war in a foreign country,…

Computer science goes the same, there was a time for Thomas J. Watson (IBM corporation) and for Edsger Wybe Dijkstra (‘GOTO considered harmful’). Decades later there was a time for Gates and Jobs. Later on others would come: Yang, Page, Brin, Izaza, Zuckerberg and so on.

Now the wheel is completing another turn: Gates is out, Jobs is in his way out, Google is firing workers and doubt about privacy is all over “Social networking”. Some bloggers are even arguing about who will be remembered in history books: Gates or Jobs

This new turn of the wheel comes with new rules yet to be clarified and new players yet to be named, but one more time we will only have to change names and places. Fame and fortune is up for grabs for whoever sees it coming first.
